golden wedding anniversary

We have recently completed our first golden wedding anniversary stationery.

The couple have been married for 50 years, celebrated with friends and family at Langar Hall.

They had menus based on our order of service with paper insert and honey gold satin ribbon tie (as above).

A table plan...

and place name tags that were attached to golden hearts from Emily Readett-Bayley.

It made a lovely change for us from handmade wedding invitations.  Congratulations to Di and Robin..... and what an achievement!

The Help

Eventually got to see the film, The Help which is based on Kathryn Stockett's book of the same title.

It's mainly about the racial imbalances of 1963 in southern America.  It's a powerful film, with funny and sad moments....excellent acting as well.  Having read the book and enjoyed it greatly - this film certainly doesn't disappoint.

typography for wedding invitations

The first goal to all handmade wedding invitations is to provide information.
Invites should be memorable, distinctive and reflect your personality. Off the shelf invitations are generally not this.

When thinking about your text - keep it simple!

example of simple text

Keep fonts to a minimum - 2 styles is better than lots of different ones, any more makes them difficult to read. Complicated typographic layouts will almost always detract from the message.

It's generally recommended to keep invitations to 10-14 lines of copy.  Centering the copy makes it easier to read, as we tend to read them on a line-by-line basis.

inspiration for wedding favour

A very kind friend of mine gave me this lovely soap and soap dish for a present (from Mathilde-m- she knows how much I like white things!!

Wouldn't it make a lovely wedding favour?

I must 'get my finger out' and start offering wedding favours.  We could so easily produce tags personalized with the bride and groom's name and tie ribbons around soaps to make a wonderful wedding present that will match our handmade wedding invitations and stationery.

What do you think....good idea or not?

The colour Royal Blue

We've been doing quite a few handmade wedding invitations using the colour - royal blue recently.

It got me thinking ....how did royal blue get its name?

According to Wikipedia  , royal blue is said to have been invented by some millers from Frome, Somerset. They entered a competition to design a dress for the British queen, Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz (the wife of King George III).

Royal blue is traditionally described as deep to dark blue with purple or faint reddish tint.

All of our 12 collections can be produced in royal blue.  To see more visit eb1weddinginvitations.com

Don't tell the bride

Did anyone see BBC Three's 'Don't tell the bride' last night?

It was the wedding of Bristolian brickie Tom Hart-Sims to Charlotte Ellery.
Great to watch. I loved the way Tom decorated the wedding venue..white and natural. Wished he'd come to eb1weddinginvitations.com for his handmade wedding invitations and stationery though.
